Preliminary assessment of infection methods of avocado materials to evaluate tolerance to phytophthora cinnamomi rands.- Conference Poster uri icon

Resumen

  • Avocado (Persea americana Mill.) crop shows phytosanitary problems such as the wilt complex associated to different pathogens, with the Oomycete Phytophthora cinnamomi Rands standing out (Zentmyer, 1980; Coffey, 1991; Ciro et al., 2006; Tamayo, 2007). This Oomycete affects trees in the nursery stage and during the first two years after establishing the crop, causes generalized yellowing of the leaves, root wilting, and generalized dieback of the trees (Tamayo, 2007). One of the management strategies is aimed at looking for patterns or resistant-tolerant rootstocks. The aim of this work was a preliminary assessment of a direct infection protocol on corn as a method to identify levels of tolerance to Phytophthora cinnamomi in avocado materials
