- Cassava has a low vegetative multiplication rate and, therefore, each cycle of selection takes about six years for completion. Initially, a large number of genotypes were evaluated and visual selection was performed on single plant plots. Gradually the number of genotypes is reduced year after year and, simultaneously, the size of plots is increased with the availability of more planting material.
