Smyth, Stuart James

Dr. Stuart Smyth is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Agriculture and Resource Economics at the University of Saskatchewan, where he holds the Industry Research Chair in Agri-Food Innovation. His research focuses on sustainability, agriculture, innovation and food. Smyth’s contribution to the P2IRC project is the lead the research on how experts make risk based decisions on the regulation of new crop varieties. In addition to this, he will also be focusing on the roles of science and socio-economics within the regulation of agricultural innovations.

Recent publications include The Coexistence of Genetically Modified, Organic and Conventional Foods: Government Policies and Market Practices (Oct. 2016) and the Research Collection on Biotechnology, Agriculture and Development, co-edited with David Castle (University of Victoria, BC) and Peter Phillips (University of  Saskatchewan), published by Edward Elgar (Dec. 2015).
