Resumen
- The aim of this study was evaluating the effect of including a tropical legume: Leucaena leucocephala in Guinea (Megathyrsus maximus) and Brachiaria (Brachiaria humidicola) forages based diet on the methane in vitro production. The inclusion of 30% of the tropical legume Leucaena leucocephala (L) on the Megathyrsus maximus (Gui), decreased the methane in vitro production by 29 and 34% of gDMd-1 and gNFDd-1, respectively. However, the inclusion of Leucaena leucocephala on Brachiaria (Bra) induced an increase in the methane production by 18 and 68% gDMd-1 and gNFDd-1 respectively, increasing the NDFD by 11% of this diet. On the other hand, the DMD, gas volume and ammonium concentration increased by including this legume in both forages, without affecting other parameters such as pH and total VFA.
