Applications of nanotechnology in agry-food productions - Chapter uri icon

Resumen

  • Recent developments in nanotechnology have received worldwide interest. The ability to manipulate the physical, chemical, and biological properties of molecules at nanoscale has already changed our perception of agriculture, food, medicine, and environmental management. The primary aim of this chapter is to present the principles of nanoencapsulation techniques and other tools focused on nanosensors design, environmental remediation, and the development of methods to fabricate nanomaterials (nanofibers, nanotubes, or nanocapsules) that can be used as active seeds coating, nanocarriers for pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers, or raw materials to make protective clothes for farm workers. This chapter highlights selected works among an extensive literature about food and agricultural applications of nanotechnology, which are going to impact important aspects of the food industry and agriculture from tailored molecular synthesis of new products, bioactive compounds, or functional ingredients of health and food safety.
