Food systems have made significant progress over recent decades but face growing challenges related to sustainability, resilience, and their ability to meet future global needs. This book brings together contributions from experts around the world to assess current knowledge on the future of food systems across different regions, commodities, and thematic areas.
Each chapter reviews recent trends, key challenges, and available foresight research, while identifying important knowledge gaps that require further investigation. Rather than predicting the future, the book explores plausible scenarios and pathways to support better decision-making and policy development. The volume includes analyses of major drivers of change, regional and national perspectives, food commodities, and tools for measuring and modeling food systems.
The collection was developed through CGIAR’s foresight research initiatives and aims to inform strategies that can help build more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient food systems in the years ahead.
