Graduated in crop production from the University of Costa Rica, with a Masters Degree from CATIE on Integrated Pest Management, and a Ph.D. from Edimburgh University on Insect Ecology. Professor at the University of Costa Rica, with 30 years experience mainly on insect ecology, insect management with reduced use of pesticides, organic farming and sustainable food production by small farmers. Invited lecturer in Brazil, Michigan (USA), Sri Lanka, Taiwan and Italy. Director or member of thesis committees in 24 undergraduate and 13 graduate thesis and lecturer on agricultural entomology, biopesticides, integrated pest management, organic farming and pest diagnosis. With 57 publications in national and international journals.
